ASSESSMENT

Am I a Sex Addict?

Are you concerned that you may have an addiction to sex and/or pornography? Do you feel you cannot stop once you start or that you are unable to stop thinking about or planning the next time you'll act out? Do you have a secret life that you do not want others to know?

Sex addiction takes many forms. In other words, there are many types of sex addicts and sexual addiction. If your sexual behavior is causing problems in your life (personal or professional), take the free and anonymous online test to determine if sex addiction is a problem. At the end of the test is a graph that will give you the "typical" range and show where your answers score compared to the group.

Please bring your assessment to your first appointment with Wings of Hope or email it with the initial paperwork.

Is my husband/wife/partner a sex addict?

This is an often asked question. There are resources that can help you and your spouse/partner determine if he/she is struggling with sexual addiction. Sexual addiction is traumatic for the spouse/partner of the person with the addiction. Let Wings of Hope help by making an appointment today.

Do your relationships seem addictive, or do you find yourself betrayed in a relationship?

The series of statements on the survey linked below describe traumatic bonding, wherein a person bonds based on betrayal. The result is what we call a "betrayal bond." When you are finished, click submit to get your results.

Healthy Intimacy

Wings of Hope provides counseling for healthy sexuality that includes emotional, spiritual, and physical sexuality therapy.

Pre-Engagement Program

Wings of Hope provides a special program for Pre-engaged couples to encourage them to know their conflicts before they get engaged. It is much easier to look honestly at conflicts before committing, and there are more options than after engagement (where most want to minimize them). In addition, some couples need to process more even to see if they want to go to the next step.

Premarital Counseling

Julie is a certified Prepare/Enrich Counselor through Life Innovations, Inc.  Prepare-Enrich.com
What is PREPARE/ENRICH

PREPARE/ENRICH is a customized couple assessment completed online that identifies a couple's strengths and growth areas. It is one of the most widely used programs for premarital counseling and premarital education. There are also customized versions of the inventory used for marriage counseling, marriage enrichment, and dating couples considering engagement. Based on a couple's assessment results, Julie typically provides 3 separate 60-minute sessions (or can be done as an intensive, together for 3 hours), in which she helps the couple discuss and understand their results as they learn proven relationship skills.

How many people have taken the PREPARE/ENRICH Program?

Over 3 million couples have taken the PREPARE/ENRICH Program since it began in 1980.

What are the main goals of the PREPARE/ENRICH Program?

There are several goals of the PREPARE/ENRICH Program. To achieve these goals, there are exercises designed to help couples improve their relationship skills. The program helps couples:

  • Explore strength and growth areas
  • Strengthen communication skills
  • Identify and manage major stressors
  • Resolve conflict using the Ten Step Model
  • Develop a more balanced relationship
  • Explore family of origin issues
  • Discuss financial planning and budgeting
  • Establish personal, couple, and family goals
  • Understand and appreciate personality differences
What relationship areas are assessed by the Inventories?
  • 12 Relationship Scales - communication, conflict resolution, roles, sexuality, finances, spiritual beliefs, and more
  • 5 SCOPE Personality Scales
  • Couple and Family Scales - based on the circumplex model
  • 4 Relationship Dynamic Scales
  • 30 Customized Scales
Is the PREPARE/ENRICH Program valid & reliable?

An important strength of the PREPARE/ENRICH Inventories is their strong psychometric properties. High levels of reliability and validity have been found for each instrument, making them valuable tools for research as well as clinical use. National norms are based on over 500,000 couples.

PREPARE has validity in that it discriminates premarital couples that get divorced from those that are happily married with about 80-85% accuracy. Reliability is high (alpha reliability of .80 - .85).

Marriage and Couples Counseling

In Marriage counseling, Julie uses her training and experience mostly from the Gottman Marriage Institute, IFS (Internal Family Systems), and DNA of Relationships. She has a varied background of couples training in addition to these as well, and will draw on other techniques as needed. She does not use a cookie cutter approach since there are so many factors to consider with an individual, so there are far more when there is a couple involved. After thorough assessment, she makes her decision on treatment, drawing from a large arsenal of training and experience.

Work and Financial Disorders

Some people form firm attachments to work and/or money. In therapy, you can earn a secure attachment devoid of the fears that drive those addicted to work or money. Richard Rohr states, "There are shared and agreed upon reactions in every culture and every institution. These are often the hardest to heal because they do not look like addictions as we have all agreed to be compulsive about the same things and blind to the same problems." However sanctioned those behaviors may be by our environment, they can be as addictive as alcohol or drugs and bring similar consequences to our personal peace and relationships.

Do you feel out of balance with any of the following issues?

  • Money Aversive

Wings of Hope offers the assessment and follow up treatment on issues of financial and work styles.

Intensives

Julie Dozier offers intensive outpatient therapy to married couples desiring to resolve core issues affecting interpersonal relationships. Intensives are usually indicated for marriages in crisis with such things as infidelity, sexual addiction, or intimacy problems. However, many couples have chosen to do an intensive merely to enrich their marriage.

Couple relaxing together - Intensive therapy

In addition, intensives are indicated for individuals who are either in crisis or just prefer to focus their time in one larger block of a few days than several months of weekly meetings.

Some clients say they prefer the intensive format to the usual 50-minute session a week format because many times they feel the need to hold back emotionally so they can more easily transition back to work or other things on their schedule.

With an intensive, they can put all their emotional energy to a few days and allow themselves to feel and process more freely.

Length of Therapy

An intensive is concentrated therapy running from 2-8 days. The length of the intensive is determined by Julie after a phone assessment.

Intensives include three to four hours with your therapist each day. In addition, there will be outside work assigned when not directly with your therapist.

Location

Couples or individuals may choose to schedule an intensive at Wings of Hope. Julie has also flown to the clients' city to do intensives. In the client's own city will be higher fees because of transportation costs. Some, however, choose this because of children, breast-feeding, or other complications in which they feel they cannot leave home for a few days. Depending on the location, the fees will vary. You may fill out the contact form on this site for more information on fees.

Insurance: Many times couples have been reimbursed by their insurance companies for intensives.

Anger Management

Julie helps the client look behind the anger, as it is a secondary emotion. Many times it is actually more about fear or hurt. The client is helped in expressing feelings in a more healthy way. Julie also believes how a person thinks is vital to anger management. The bible states in Proverbs 23:7, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." Counseling is based on the biblical principle that one's feelings, passions, and behavior are subject to and conditioned by the way one thinks. Also, drawing on the psychological theory of cognitive behaviorism, the client learns how to identify the unhealthy thinking patterns that have led to anger and how to replace them with the truth.

Post Abortion Syndrome

Julie was in a video shoot about Post Abortion Syndrome that you may find at Pregnancy Centers in the U.S. You may also see her on TV from time to time on a Focus on the Family TV spot on PAS. In addition, she has helped with LifeHouse Ministries, A Christ-Centered Sanctuary for Those Touched by an Unplanned Pregnancy.

Julie has also served as counselor for post-abortion clients in a Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Infertility

Julie counsels couples and individuals with great compassion and empathy on this topic. Grieving and spiritual issues are some of the counseling topics attached to the difficult struggle of infertility.

Anxiety

Being trained in trauma, Julie works with those experiencing panic attacks, general anxiety, phobias, transitional anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Stress Reduction

Julie takes a holistic approach, coordinating care with medical physicians, testing, getting background history and other procedures to consider the diagnosis of level and nature of stress in order to progress on the most appropriate treatment plan.

Whether it is job stress, stress from relationships, or some other source, Julie is adept at identifying the triggers, looking at core issues, and working with a client to reduce the stressful effects on their emotional well-being.

Boundaries

Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. In the book, Boundaries, Cloud and Townsend state a boundary to be a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible.

In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not. Boundaries impact all areas of our lives.

  • Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us and under what circumstances.
  • Mental boundaries give us the freedom to have our own thoughts and opinions.
  • Emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and disengage from the harmful, manipulative emotions of others.

Depression

The symptoms of depression can vary from person to person. One may go through moods of highs and lows, and another person may want to sleep all the time, while yet another may not be able to sleep at all. Julie is proficient in assessing and treating different forms of mood disorders.

Grief and Loss

There are many issues that call for grieving besides losing a loved one to death or divorce. The grieving process is a part of living, an element of transition. However, if one minimizes the importance and avoids the process, it can cause problems in other areas of one's life. Julie counsels many clients to identify their losses, grieve, and grow through the process.
